The Witch of Edmonton

Let’s get witchy!
Our next production will be The Witch of Edmonton (1621), a folk-horror tragicomedy by William Rowley, Thomas Dekker and John Ford. The play will be directed by Thomas Manson (director of last year’s Opening Night at the Abbey Theatre and a short play from 2022‘s Red).

We are currently looking for cast and crew! If you’re interested, we will have two info evenings:

12 September, 19:00 (virtually on Zoom, contact us for the link!)

17 September, 19:00 (Room 11, English Seminar, Nadelberg 6)

Here are the slides of the info evening!

You’re welcome to join us to meet the director, find out about the play, read a little snippet and have any questions answered that you might have. If you can’t join us for the info evenings, you can also read about the play and the most important info below.

Auditions will take place on September 23rd, 24th and 26th (re-scheduled from the 25th!), with shows happening on December 6th, 7th, 8th (matinee), 12th, 13th and 14th.

Please remember that a play requires a lot of time and work – only sign up if you feel you’re able to commit and are not on holiday for a long period during the rehearsal months. You absolutely need to be free on the show dates and the following rehearsal dates: December 1st, December 2nd, December 3rd, December 4th. Please also reserve the 29.09. for our read-through (10:00-14:00). About the Play

This remarkable early modern tragicomedy tells the story of Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman accused of witchcraft by the suspicious inhabitants of a rural English village. From demon dogs and cursed Morris dancing to murderous love affairs and mischievous ghosts, The Witch of Edmonton is a folk horror par excellence, revealing the dark underside of England’s green and pleasant land, and challenging the hardened beliefs of its day. In its unique concoction of tragedy and comedy, the play offers an array of complex characters and presents a great opportunity to engage with a range of different roles.
